Today I washed a cedar fence with roof mix. I put in on and rinsed it off after a couple of minutes. Came of good.

Lots of thought processes here, which is great. Different approaches.  Here's our thoughts and findings:

Much like Ed mentioned, we'll only offer using SH as a cost effective alternative, with full disclosure.  Even then, we're often a no-bid for SH.  If you go look at any cedar roof jobs done with SH a few months later, they look pretty bad IMO.  Very washed-out, and un-natural looking.  We were a no-bid on a mansion recently, as the owner wanted cheap.  Not on a $4M home. Not me.  The liability was just to great.  And our reputation is far more important than that.

For cedar, the '3 step' process is the same 3 step process used for wood - sodium percarbonate (works via activated hydrogen peroxide), followed by a moderate power rinse, then a neutralizer / brighter.   Seal or stain would be an optional 4th step.  (Note if the roof had a recent stain/sealant, then one might have to use sodium hydroxide to strip vs sodium percarbonate.)

We don't go after decks, yet one of my competitors (Ryan F, great guy for those that know him) gets 3-4 bucks per sq ft for 3 stepping  DECKS and sealing them.  So imagine a cedar roof like a deck, but 2 or 3 stories high and very slippery.   VERY slippery.

The job in the pics below was $6000.  That did not include an additional $1600 that is beyond the scope of this forum.  I'll need more than that for roof like that next time...  Just my 2 cents on the topic.

Is Oxalic available in local paint stores? If so once I get the boat out of the way I can do a test on different sections of fence.
