Check out  Shutter Saver restore your vinyl shutters. Anybody try this?

 How Does It Work?

Shutter Saver is made up of the latest in nano-resin technology. The smaller particles make their way into the faded surface and "wet out" the surface. This action rejuvenates the vinyl resins in the shutter and restores them to their original, vibrant color. Next, the larger acrylic resins dry on top to form a flexible, breathable film on the shutter, giving it a soft sheen and years of protection against the harmful UV rays.

Simple Two-Step Process

16 shutters can be done in as little as 3 hours.

Step #1 - Cleaning Shutters: use Shutter Saver Cleaner and stiff brush to remove all dirt and contaminants. Rinse. Allow to dry.

Step #2 - Painting Shutters: Shutter Saver Clear Finish works on all colors. Brush on one coat only...and let the unique blend of resins transform your shutter like new. Goes on milky, dries clear. See results in just minutes after applying.

Always refer to product label on can for complete instructions
Shutter Saver works on all colors of shutters
Application Note: Put it on white shutters to stop the white chalky stuff from running down the house onto your red brick.

I used a paint product from home depot that worked like a charm on both shutters and some old green lawn furniture. Unfortunately, I can't remember(old age) the name of it right now. If Barry checks in he can give you the name.

How much can you charge? A new pair of basic shutters can be bought for about $30.

True, especially since you can easily drop $100 on a fancy pair of shutters too.

Lowes or HD shutter $85. If I go to the Shutter Suppy and get better quality shutters they are more.

The end of last year I did my house and one other house shutters with shutter renew. Great results. I sold it at $30 per pair. This year I'm going to shoot for $50/pair. I even did part of my vinyl siding with amazing results.

Seems if your going to do the prep,..you may as well just use a good quality paint and paint them. It's one thing to do like Art says and use a simple spray like WD or whatever,..that's fast and simple,..but if you're doing this kind of prep you may as well refinish,...not rejuvenate.

There's really not much prep involved for restoring the shutters. We just scrub over the shutters to remove oxidation and grime while we're washing the house. Let the shutters dry, and apply 2 coats of shutter renu. It goes on very easy. No worries of lap marks or paint dragging. The shutters get coated while they're on the house.

If you were painting the shutters, the paint manufacturers recommend a 100% acrylic paint to bond to the plastic. Even using the acrylic, the paint can be scratched off the shutters pretty easily. To prevent that, the paint reps recommend using a bonding primer first. So now painting is a 3 step coating process. It's also best to pull all the shutters off the house before painting. Material costs will be higher, and labor cost will be higher.

We've coated shutters with renu and with paint, and the renu is the better option unless the customer is looking for a color change. A gallon of renu can generate $1500-$2000 in sales.

We get on average $50/pr. to renew the shutters, I get $100/pr to purchase and install new vinyl shutters that will fade again in a couple years anyway. Either way it only takes a few minutes.

Ok, I misunderstood the process. I may consider this as an add-on myself.

Always try to sell Louvered Shutter. They don't fade as fast as Raised Panel. Raised panel shutters hold the head and cause them to fade faster.

My concern would be having to stand behind the product. What is an expected time until a recoat is needed?

I believe Shutter Renu claims at least 7 years. I can tell you, shutters we coated 5 years ago still look as good as the day we did them.

I wouldn't trust my guys with a paint brush. Too much chance for mess. Shutter Renu is easy. I'm taking sample to home show this weekend to see if I get any interest.

I would like to hear the results, this seams like a great add-on and an easyup sell. The other thing that comes to mind is add the to my specials page as a free service with additional that are added.

He said the going price is 50 bucks a pair. I would use it as a last minute up sell. He is sending some shutter peaces with the kit. Lets see what I get and see what results I get from the product.. It should be here any day.

I had a sample sent out to me last week. I tried it out on a sample shutter they also sent out. It works great! Goes on quick and as described in their application process. The rep said there is a five year guarantee but could expect longer out of it.
