RE: End of season surge - let's get some synergies!

Being a bit further south than you, we can pick and choose days up until Jan or Feb - get's tough then, but we do occasionally get a day in the 40s and we'll roll if we can make a day of it (read - hit the daily revenue target).

We sold 4 more yesterday, and there are two that I have yet to call back. Over 40 roofs in the hopper now, a severe cold snap, and we have reservations rapidly approaching for the Florida Keys! I've called in the cavalry - our 'good competitor' who has also become a friend, is going to fly under our colors for a while to help us get caught up! Now that's team work and we all win!

Glad to see you Northern guys are still pushing forward. It was in the upper 20s - mid 30s today and the roofs turned out great as always. It wasn't much fun getting wet with that wind kickin' up a bit, but all in all, no big deal. Our weather should be much better tomorrow - mid 40s for a high. I'll gladly take that after today. And we'll have another rig rollin' tomorrow! Increased production!!

We did a roof on Saturday and have worked on our gutter cleaning contracts since then. All next week it'$ a gutter cleanout on 20 bldg HOA. They re overflowing with compost, leaves and weeds.

I hope that you're getting paid well for it Hank. I'll take a queue from you and a good friend and maybe go after gutter cleaning next year - if for no other reason than to keep the team employed and making money for as long as possible in to winter.

Even when I had my landscape business I did gutter clean outs. When I started exterior cleaning I would try to up sell gutter clean outs after we completed the roof or siding cleaning. Customers want someone they can trust and rely on year after year. Needless to say the money is not the same as roof cleaning but it's generating revenue for the business daily. The more roof and exterior cleaning we do the more gutter clean outs we will do.

I'm always willing to talk with anyone in the industry.

We have so much snow I have started roof shoveling already. Two weeks ago we cleaned a roof, now we are booked this week with clearing snow from roofs. What a start to winter.

Is that to remove the weight from the roof Dave, or to prevent leaks? (I've never lived up north).

Monday is going to be a heat wave high 60's, but maybe so light rain.

We remove the snow to take the weight off, and to reduce the risk of ice dams. Thousands of dollars in damage occurred last year to homes up here because of ice dams on the roofs. People this year are nervous, and taking the steps needed to not have the same problem.

It hit 70f here today, and we did $3200 on one truck, from 9-5, including a SH run which burned up an hour. Not bad. Hopefully more of the same tomorrow before the rain and snow gets here Wednesday.

Meanwhile the RV is back from the service department and I'm ready to get out of Dodge.

Nice work Ted! Sounds like you guys are doing big things. I wish I was a bit closer so we could work something out. That DC / Northern Virginia market is where you'll find the pot of gold that sits at the end of the rainbow. Mike (Gutterdog) Hockman should be all over this deal.

Thanks Chris. It's taken a TON of work over the years, but we've definitely established our business as the dominant player in the market. And there are more expansions plans that will be put in place this winter. so we'll bust out the gate this spring. I'd wanted my own business for a LONG time, and I still can't believe how satisfying and rewarding it is.

The crazy thing is, our primary service area continues to get smaller and smaller, and that has really effected our bottom line - in a great way.

Mike D - I'm proud of you man. I'm sure it's been killing you not to chime in until now It's called sharing the excitement - the energy, the enthusiasm. Had you reached out in a different manner, perhaps we'd be talking this evening. Hopefully others have gleaned a few things from the thread; $3000 / day per truck (or better) is achievable (we do it all the time), cold weather roof cleaning simply means you might get cold - nothing more. Of course you already know all of that.

Over the winter I may share some thoughts. But to publicly give up one's competitive advantages isn't a good business strategy.

I should be. We do southern Maryland. I might look into it next year?

Now I'm smiling sincerely as I type this - I told you YEARS ago I would not come across the river in to PG County Maryland. You roll in to Northern VA, then all bets are off

As an aside, I did have another Northern VA roof cleaning company sign on for our overflow. Had all of the financials worked out and everything and guess who 'called in' the first day?! Needless to say - FIRED. No wonder he's struggling.
