Good find Jason. I found these 1/2"npt at Home Depot near the Pex stuff. They are schedule 80 and have a larger bore than the banjo. They are like $.39 each.

Good find Jason. I have shifted away from plastic barbed fitting this year and trying stainless steel to help reduce downtime.

These Hose barbs aren't cheap, but they hold up way better then brass

I use plastic fittings wherever I can. Sourced from lowes for sprinklers

Yea,..I was wondering why not use something in the plastic line,..like Brett said,..schedule 80. Sometimes there needs to be places where strength is more important. But that usually pertains to something in the pressure washer side of things. Like hose reel fittings,...but I don't think that is the case here.

I still use a FatBoy and I don't like restricting the flow. Everything from the pick up tube to the pump has a clear path. Schedule 80 barbs have a smaller hole, these barbs don't. I'm still using the 3/4" gray check valves also with good results. They just need to be epoxied together. I don't like the black check valves everybody uses because they restrict. We all have different opinions on this stuff and this is my way. Learned way back at the RCIA that less restriction is better

ART I have schedule 80 fittings that are next size up to not restrict flow. I have to see what size they actually are but you can definitely get it done w plastic and non restrictive.
Pretty sure I just has to heat up and stretch the 1/2 hose over the fitting.

I'll look later when I pick up truck but think they are 1/2"mpt X 5/8barb

I get it now Art but Erik brought up something I still do, but not as often. Heat and stretch! I think you can get a 1/2 x 5/8 barbed schedule 80 fitting. I'm in Richmond today so I can't check our stock.

I've use the schedule 80 in the past also. I used to grind the outside down to make it fit in the hose better.

I often heat hose so it goes over a hose barb easier,..I don't have a heat gun,...(Need to get one though),...I simply use very hot water,...depending on the hose material determines how hot the water should be or how long it needs to stay in,...works very well though. I typically microwave a cup of water for 2-3 minutes. The small diameter (1/4"-5/16") PVC clear hose heats very quickly,..with even just hot water from the tap.

Great idea Jeff! Getting them off could be tough w/o a heat gun. Here a cheap one from Harbor Freight. I found having a better one is good to have around when a tanks needs to be repaired.

I usually cut it off. It wastes about 1&1/2 inches of tubing but much easier then getting it off any other way
