DieHard batteries from Advance Auto.

Just want to share my experience with the "new" DieHard batteries from Advance Auto. I bought a DieHard Gold last May and it was junk at the start of this year. I never had an issue with my starting battery until this one. It was stored properly,..At full charge and on a wooden shelf),..just like any battery before it.  Took me a little while to realize something wasn't right. Because it had good voltage so it did work,..but the cranking amps weren't there.  Engine turned over very slowly and before,.. when I kept the engine running while winding up the hose it was like turbo boost. The first several jobs I did this year I noticed it didn't help at all to run the engine,..there was no difference from the hose reel performance with or without the engine running.

And then my "indicator" light I use for my remote unit started getting slower and slower, Ha, Ha,...And then on Saturday morning I shut down for a a few minutes to talk to the customer,..and when I tried to start back up,..DEAD!  Luckily I have a little NOCO GB40 jump pack that bailed me out. Engine is fine once started and didn't need power from the battery. Luckily it had enough juice to run the electric hose reel. 

I replaced the battery with a new NAPA Startrite commercial type battery. 925cca.  Feels like a great deal at under $100. I've went with NAPA batteries in my vehicles over the last few years and they seem to be a good as deal and quality as anyone. 

The DieHard from Advance Auto isn't the same battery that was sold by sears. Those were good quality batteries in my experience.

  Same thing happened to me. They weren’t Die Hard but Napa batteries. I bought a new one for my Jeep last summer that was dead in December and a new one for my PW and hose reels in November that had a dead cell in March when I opened my trailer. Both were replaced by Napa, but very inconvenient. From what I understand there are only a couple battery recycling companies in the country and it seems like there are short cuts being done. Probably because of lack of staff.

Sounds like it's maybe the luck of the draw with batteries these days, Ha, Ha,..I remember it used to be Interstate, Deka, Diehard, NAPA batteries were some of the most popular branded batteries. Now you're probably just about as good to go with whatever's cheap. This is the first time I ever had a battery go bad in less than a year.

I've been buying batteries from Auto Zone for years without issue. Three levels of good, better best. I stay in the good to best range and always get more life than I could ever expect.

I go to Walmart. Best bang for the buck. If I get a year out of it I'm fine. Nothing lasts long in our business

I've used a few Walmart batteries (Everstart) they were actually decent batteries and lasted for about three years each. The last one though started to bulge on the end and was leaking acid. I didn't even want to get close to it, Ha, Ha,.. I replaced it with the afore mentioned Diehard. I think it is just the luck of the draw.

 I'm getting 2 - 3 years out of the Duralast Heavy Duty Batteries.
